Q: What is concrete engraving?
A: Concrete engraving is a process that cuts into your existing cured concrete, before or after staining, which creates any number of patterns (brick, tile, flagstone, logos, etc., etc) only limited by your imagination. Back to top.
Q: What is concrete staining?
A: First, it is not a paint on the surface of the concrete. It will never peel away. There is no thickness added, so no doors to trim. It is the result of a chemical reaction between the stain and the minerals in the concrete which is aided by an etching procedure. The stains are available in many colors either solid or translucent, muted or bright. When it is properly sealed it will remain for many years. Back to top.
Q: What is the process?
A: Landscaping and buildings are shielded from any overspray during the whole process. The concrete is power washed and degreased if necessary. If required, the concrete surface will be etched and then thoroughly cleaned again. Next we stain the concrete with either an acid or acrylic based stain. After the staining process we begin engraving. Once the engraving is finished, the concrete is thoroughly cleaned yet again to remove any debris and finally, the project is protected with a durable matt or high gloss acrylic sealer. Back to top.
Q: What condition does my concrete need to be in?
A: Age is not a problem although it should be at least 30 to 45 days old for proper curing. If spalling has occured (top popping off of the surface) this process will likely not produce the results that you are looking for. Sometimes replacement is the only alternative, but if you've been thinking of replacing concrete simply because of annoying cracks, stains, or discolored concrete think again! The problem of discoloration can be eliminated with color. Most cracks can be incorporated into the design and they "disappear". Some cracks will need more attention, but we can do that for you in most cases. Back to top.
Q: How long does this process take?
A: Depending on the size and complexity of the project, it will usually take from a few days to several weeks from start to finish. Larger projects will take longer and for exterior projects, Mother Nature can be a factor. Back to top.
Q: Can this be done on walls or steps?
A: Yes, even concrete ceilings! Steps, risers, stoops and porches are easy to beautify. Interior concrete walls and floors can be done too. Do you or family members have allergies? Staining & engraving a basement floor will elliminate the problems that you have with carpet dust & mites. Plus, it will never need to be replaced, even if you develop a water problem. Back to top.
